I'm a philosopher and a University Assistant in the Department of Philosophy at the University of Vienna, working with Professor Paulina Sliwa as a part of the Vienna Moral Philosophy Group. I write primarily about ethics and moral philosophy, but I'm interested in whatever might lead to a better understanding of those topics, as well as in a number of things that likely won't.
I have a few different research and writing projects at the moment. The main one revolves around Gilbert Ryle and the notion of knowing-how. I'm editing The Rylean Mind for Routledge's Philosophical Minds Series, and I'm thinking about some different aspects (historical and topical) concerning that central notion of Ryle's. I'm also (though in a connected way) thinking about what ethical principles are about and what, if anything, they explain. And in a third project, I've been looking at Iris Murdoch's attitudes toward Martin Heidegger - and in particular, toward his 'methodological atheism', in contrast to her own 'atheistic theism' (denying the existence of God but not of a highest 'something', in terms of which all beings can be understood). |
